" I probably won't either. Say, have you seen Swiftwind today? I can't find him anywhere. Knowing him, he probably got himself caught in some two-leg trap."Shadowsinger then sat down and shared tongues with her friend Batshrill.

"No, I haven't....odd, he's usually pacing around camp trying to find something to do..." she meowed, drawing a wet paw over her ear. "Then again....this camp is vacant"

"Good point. Do you think I should alert Saberstar?" she meowed

Batshrill shuddered at the thought of Saberstar hearing bad news. That's all the she-cat needed to hear right now. "It wouldn't hurt..." she lied.

"Well, if you say so," Saberstar was already mad anyway. Why not tell her? She paddled overto her cave and peeked behind the veil of moss." Yes?"came a questoning voice from the dark depths of the cave. Shadowsinger then told her the bad news?

"What!?" came a snarl that bellowed out of the cave. Saberstar dashed out of the cave, her black fur bristling. "Stealthstrike, find that runt and take Shadowsinger with you!" she spat. "Go Now!!" she roared. "How dare my warriors leave without telling me," she growled pacing back and forth on her rock.
"Oh boy..." muttered Batshrill. She padded into her den and curled to go to sleep.

Swiftwind woke up coughing on a beach at the base of a waterfall. Where was he? How would he get back to his clan. Saberstar would be furious. He hated to even think about what would happen upon his return. That is, if he does return.

Saberstar slid through her den...the full moon was coming soon and Swiftwind wasn't here. She couldn't hold the ceremony without all of the clan...where was he? She sighed, she cared about her Clan, she really did...but her flaring temper and dark training ways made her soul so black...and she liked it that way.

Once he felt strong enough, Swiftwind looked at his surroundings. A forest is nearby, and hunger drove him to explore it for food. Hopefully it would be free of hostile cats.

Shadowsinger and Stealthstrike set out immediately, but were unsure on where to look. Everyone knows that he left camp early in the morning. "Now what would a cat do in the morning?" asked Shadowsinger.

Swiftwind spent all day exploring the forest, and luckily it was filled with prey. After gorging himself on food, he began to realize that he should have stayed by the river. If he followed it, it would bring him back home. Feeling mousebrained, he spent all night searching for the place he had sought to leave. He then began to realize that those late-night patrolls did some good after all. When he finally stumbled upon it -literally, he fell in- he was saved. by dawn, he had made it back to the waterfall, and his imprints in the sand were still visible. Oh yeah. Forgot about the waterfall. Luckily, a tree was propped against a sheer rock wall. By then the tree was already dead, and the trung was barkless, making it a very difficult tree to climb. Swiftwind had nothing to loose though, and he decided to give it a try.

Uhhh.... *thunk*. Swiftwind had tried and tried many times to scale the tree, but it was no use. It seemed like his warrior ancestors were taunting him, when home seemed so close. As he laid sprawled out on the ground, he painfully opened one eyelid. He was right in front of that tree. After he had stared at it for awhile, Swiftwind noticed something unusual about the tree. He crept closer until his nose was almost touching it. Under the roots of the tree was an abandoned den. The cieling was very low, and Swiftwind coughed, because every time he bumped the roof, dirt would come showering down atop his head. It was dark in there, and he liked it. Sunlight came streaming in after him, and he saw the strangest thing. Drawings of cats were etched into the dirt, and at the back of the den, a single pool of water surrounded by rocks reflected the sunlight. A nest made of ancient dried-out moss shuddered at his every pawstep. Swiftwind slowly backed out of the mysterious den, to see if there were any other signs of cat life.

The more he looked, the more he saw. Behind the roaring waterfall was another cave, with art scratched on the walls. What kind of cats had lived here? Why did they leave? Swiftwind decided that e would rather not know, and found many other caves identical to that one. Between the waterfall and the old tree looked like a plain stone cliff. But since Swiftwind was paying close attention to everything, he noticed something so slight that the average eye wouldn't catch it. Steps, made of camoflauged rock, were carved into the side of the cliff. Yes!!! Swiftwind was so excited! Finally, a way out! He followed the steps, which gradually made their way to the top. When he got back, Swiftwind would tell everyone about his discoveries.

The top of the waterfall looked about the same. Strange and unfamiliar. Still, he trodded upstream alongside the riverbank endlessly on the track that he knew would lead him home. Swiftwind didn't think for one moment about his clanmates' reactions. He assumed that they would all embrace him and welcome him back.

"I can't believe he just disappeared." Stealthstrike growled. If he and Shadowsinger didn't find the tom soon, Saberstar was sure to give punsihments. Trodding along a worn path through the bushes, they found no sign of Swiftwind. "Let's go take a break by the river." he decided. "All this walking and not finding him is really getting on my nerves."
