Woody gazed at the bright gold, shining meadow that was their home, impatient whinnys and snorts coming from his herd behind him. His ears twitched as he breathed in it's fresh scent, his hooves plotting at the ground once or twice. He reared back with a mighty bray and with a lash of his tail he moved his herd down the hill. The sun beat heavily upon the earth and an eagle soared over head with an echoing cry its wingbeats steady and powerful.

"You'll never catch me now!" Apollo whinnyed as he came barreling down the sloped hillside, legs awkwardly splayed as he looked over his shoulder. Sheriff was right on his tail, a competitive look in his eyes. With another bust of energy, he took off after Woody, gallops eating up the space between the two. The warm sun beat down on his warmed coat, and a cooling breeze blew past his shoulder. The next time he looked up with his chocolate brown eyes, the herd leader was right there, in front of him. It was too late to completely stop, though. Apollo skidded to a near stop, still lightly bumping the stallion. He flattened his ears. "Sorry."

Woody snorted with a fierce glare, his tail lashing. His eyes suddenly softened. "I'm just kidding." he laughed shaking his mane with a mighty thrash of his head. He slowly walked towards a lake that the meadow faded into, his neck bobbing with every step. "Come Apollo...." he grunted.

Apollo shrank away, lowering himself in embarrassment. When Woody released his gaze, the young colt relaxed, getting back to full size. His eyes widened in excitement, following his gaze. "Really?" He snorted, catching up. "Where are we going? Is it going to be fun?" He blurted out, letting his curiosity get the better of him.

Frost trotted up to Sheriff who was only a couple steps behind Apollo, and Woody. "Hey." He said, and watched the two horses walk towards the lake.

Sheriff plodded behind Apollo and Woody, about two horse lengths behind them, his head low. "He beat me at running, but I'd CRUSH him at jumping," the colt grunted to himself. He wasn't sure if Frost had heard, but he didn't really care. Realizing that Woody had called Apollo to follow him, Sheriff stopped walking. Woody hadn't said anything about him, so he turned around and trotted over to a corner of the herd where not many horses were. He passed everyone and stood a little further away to graze by himself.

Winter closed her eyes taking in a deep breath through her hazy grey nostrils and shaking her ice colored mane. Her hooves thudded at the ground twice with a pleased snort as she settled herself down on the warm golden grass, her pelt glistening like snow in the sunlight.
Woody looked at the young horse his eyes focused as he stopped by the bank of the river. "Apollo, I want you and Sheriff to try and be calm for today. We're all tired from the journey and we need to adjust back to our home." his voice thundered, though his expression shone with gentleness. "I know you're excited but, try to keep it toned down a bit." he snorted thrashing his head backwards to get the hair from his eyes.

Tango opened her eyes, the sunlight streaming across her coat. She looked around, her eyes hazy from sleep, to see a content herd. Woody was talking with Apollo near the lake and Winter looked like she was enjoying the peace. Standing up, Tango shook her giant head, tossing her mane and waking herself up. She plodded over to Winter and sat down next to the mare, her massive hooves pounding the earth as she moved. The whole herd was happy and just enjoying life. "Hey, Winter," she called before she setting herself down next to her. "How are you today?"

The colt looked up from the lake, his face dripping from the cool water. Seeing Woody's gaze, he adverted his eyes, unsure of what he had to say. "Oh, sorry." Apollo snorted, lowering his face, his mane falling down to hide his gaze. "I'll try to tone it down...But I'm so excited!" He burst out, his entire body quivering with excitement. "I mean- Come on- We're finally here....Home!" The waving grass tickled his hooves, and even though he longed to go sprinting across the field, he restrained himself.

Woody grinned at the enthusiasm of the young colt, his ears twitching. "I understand, but many of us are tired, if you want to run, I recommend going that way." he whinnied flicking his tail towards a further area in the meadow.
Winter looked up at Tango, rolling over onto her stomach. "I'm doing great. I'm so happy we're home." she neighed her tail lashing.

Tango nodded, her mane flying. "I agree. We've been away fro too long. It's nice to be back." The gypsy settled herself into a more comfortable position, curling one of her front legs back toward her chest to steady herself. "And all the colts seem to be just as happy," she continued, turning her head to look at Apollo and Woody by the lake.

"Yeah they sure are noisy. I just hope Coal and Sherrif don't come here to quickly. I'm enjoying the peace and quiet around here. Anyway, now that Woody is fully rejuvinated, I'm sure he'll be able to protect us all." she whinneyed.

Tango nodded, her mane flying again. "I completely agree with you, Winter. If Woody were still hurt, I don't know what we'd do if Coal and Zorro tried to attack." The mare snorted, tossing her head in annoyance. "That Zorro. I wish he would just leave us alone. It's not like he needs any more meadow than he already has."

Apollo nodded to Woody, eagerness still shining through. Running was fun, but it wasn't as fun when you were all alone. The golden grass swayed in the soft breeze, as if beckoning him to tear through it, at full speed. His eyes twinkled with mischief as he made a quick decision. With a burst of excitement, the colt splashed into the shallows of the lake, the cool water sprinkling his coat.

Woody stamped the ground twice, a grin marking his face. He shook his mane and trotted briskly towards the herd, a protective stare in his eyes. **** Winter shook her head. "Exactly, he's too ambitious and power hungry. But the good thing is he knows he can't beat Woody without help, the bad thing is that help is Coal. They're both so....dark." she snorted nervously.
