--Night--
Early morning.A mother's soft caress, whispering loving, yet pained words into a kit's open ears. She didn't remember any specific words, just the tone of voice the she-cat had used. Screeching in the background, light flooding in and turning her eyelids bright red as the kit hadn't opened her eyes. Then...nothing. Blackness.
Panting a little bit, Hazelkit woke up from her recurring nightmare. Every night, it was the same thing. She was dreaming of a mother she never knew, of a mother she would never have. The kit didn't even know if the dream was a memory or just a nightmare created by loneliness. A shudder ran through her curled body as she realized just how alone she was.
Hazelkit blinked open her eyes, looking around the deserted nursery. Only her little chunk of moss was there, sitting underneath her. The other kit, Hazelkit blanked on his name, was on the other side of the nursery, quiet as usual. The cool night air rushed around her, taking the place of other clanmates. She shivered again, gazing up at the bright moon that hung overhead.
Carefully, the kit rose from her den and peeked out the entrance. As usual, camp was deserted at this time of night. She should have no problems getting across the clearing. With loneliness still tugging at her heart, she darted across the moonlit camp and quietly scaled the entrance to Echostar's den. After all, Hazelkit remembered, Echostar had been nice to her in the past. As for other clan members...not so much. She stuck her little head behind the moss veil to see the leader's chest steadily rising and falling. She was asleep.
Quiet as a mouse she walked over to Echostar's body. What she needed was a little bit of comfort, as she'd been feeling so alone lately. So before the she-cat could wake up and tell her to go back to her nest, Hazelkit curled up right beside the clan leader's stomach, an innocent smile across her face as the leader's calming rhythm of breathing put her to sleep.
